What Upwork actually pays you, after everything.

Upwork's fee is only the first cut. Forex conversion takes another slice, and — unlike a domestic invoice — there's no TDS credit waiting in your 26AS. Enter your monthly earnings and see exactly what lands, and what you'll owe.

How this works

Two cuts before tax, then a bill with no cushion.

Does Upwork deduct TDS for Indian freelancers?
No. Upwork is a foreign platform, not an Indian e-commerce operator, so Section 194O (the 1% TDS Indian platforms deduct) never applies. You receive the full amount after Upwork's service fee and forex conversion — with zero TDS credit sitting in your Form 26AS. You must pay your own advance tax directly.
What is Upwork's freelancer fee?
Since May 2025, Upwork no longer charges a single flat fee. It now charges a variable freelancer service fee between 0% and 15% per contract, locked in the moment you send your proposal — the exact rate depends on factors like skill demand and category, which Upwork doesn't fully disclose. Most freelancers land around 10% on average, which is the default this calculator uses; check the rate shown on your own contract, since it can differ.
Do I need GST registration for Upwork income?
Only once your annual turnover (across all clients and platforms) crosses ₹20 lakh. Below that, no GST registration is required. Above it, Upwork income counts as export of services — zero-rated if you file under LUT.
How much tax will I pay on Upwork income under 44ADA?
Under Section 44ADA, 50% of your gross receipts is treated as taxable profit. Apply your regime's slab rates to that half. Because there's no TDS credit on this income, plan to pay the resulting advance tax in quarterly instalments — see the schedule above.

Platform fee and forex spread are estimates — verify current rates on Upwork's own fee page and your payout provider. Tax figures per Section 44ADA and Finance Act 2025/2026. Results are indicative; consult a CA for filing.
