A GST invoice your CA will accept.

Generate a GST tax invoice in four steps — it asks for every Rule 46 particular (your and the client's address and GSTIN, SAC, place of supply), auto-splits CGST/SGST or IGST per line, embeds your logo, and downloads as a clean PDF. Check each particular before you send it. Your data is sent to our server only when you click Download — we generate the PDF, return it immediately, and keep none of it.

Filing under LUT and billing a foreign client? Export invoices are zero-rated — the full app handles LUT/IGST export invoices.

How this works

What a GST invoice has to carry.

Do I need a GSTIN to issue a tax invoice in India?
Yes — a "Tax Invoice" carrying CGST/SGST or IGST can only be issued by a GST-registered person. Without a GSTIN you issue a plain "Invoice" and charge no GST at all. It is widely written that you should issue a "Bill of Supply" instead, but that is a registered person's document: CGST s.31(3)(c) addresses a registered person supplying exempt goods or services or paying tax under composition, and Rule 49 requires the supplier's GSTIN printed on its face. With no GSTIN neither condition fits, so "Invoice" is the heading that is correct either way. This tool detects it from whether you fill in the GSTIN field and drops the GST-only fields with it.
When do I charge CGST+SGST vs IGST?
CGST+SGST applies when supplier and client are in the same state (intra-state). IGST applies when they're in different states (inter-state). The split is based on Place of Supply rules — typically the client's registered address.
Is SAC code mandatory on a freelancer's GST invoice?
On a tax invoice, yes — and how many digits depends on your turnover. Since 1 April 2021 (Notification 78/2020-Central Tax), a supplier whose aggregate turnover last year was up to ₹5 crore must show at least the 4-digit SAC on invoices to registered buyers, and one above ₹5 crore the 6-digit SAC on every invoice. Use the code for the service you supplied: software and website development is 998314, IT consulting and support 998313, graphic design 998391 and content writing 999632. This tool lets you enter SAC per line with autocomplete from the 21 codes HourSlip has checked against the CBIC scheme of classification — and the GST rate per line, so a single invoice can mix 18% software work with 5% printing materials.
Can I use this invoice for GSTR-1 filing?
The PDF carries what GSTR-1 asks for — the line-level data, GSTINs, tax split, and place of supply. On a tax invoice the tool asks for every Rule 46 particular (your and the client's address and GSTIN, SAC on each line to a registered client, place of supply); check each one is right before you send it. To file GSTR-1, you'll still need to export the data in CSV format (HourSlip's main app does this in one click).
Do I have to share my PAN or GSTIN with anyone?
No personal data is stored. When you click Download, your invoice data is sent to our server solely to generate the PDF — it is returned to you immediately and not saved to any database. No account required, and we never ask for your email address.

No data is saved when you use this tool — the invoice only exists in your browser until you download it. For recurring invoicing, client history, and GSTR-1 export, upgrade to HourSlip.
